Day Nine

Renewal Comes • Brett Mosser

Devotionals
Never before had there been a king like Josiah, who turned to the Lord with all his heart and soul and strength, obeying all the laws of Moses. And there has never been a king like him since. - 2 Kings 23:25

Take a moment and read the full story of 2 Kings 22-23. Now let’s explore what made Josiah unique and how God worked through him. King Josiah’s story shows a clear path to prepare, both privately and as a community, for what God desires next for our church. Josiah’s example shows us how to be ready for a movement of God in our church: listen to God’s Word, pray humbly, and respond with faithful, generous obedience.

Immerse Yourself in God’s Word. Josiah’s journey toward national spiritual renewal began when the Book of the Law was found and read. He realized how far the people had drifted from God’s commands. Likewise, a church is renewed when members focus on and read God’s Word, allowing it to shape their priorities, including stewardship. God’s Word reminds us that all we have belongs to Him and prompts faithful giving as an act of worship.

Pray Humbly, Knowing God Listens. Josiah tore his clothes and humbled himself, showing genuine repentance (turning from sin to God). The Bible says God heard Josiah’s prayer (2 Kings 22:19). We should also approach God with humility and repentance through prayer. Stewardship goes beyond money—it reflects a heart submitted to God. Prayerful, intentional giving flows from humility and dependence on God, not obligation.

Obeying God is Paramount. Reading God’s Word and praying is not enough; obedience must follow. Josiah acted on the Word, removing idols and restoring proper worship. Similarly, giving faithfully is a tangible expression of obedience and devotion that will advance God’s kingdom.

Josiah’s story demonstrates that renewal comes through God’s Word, prayer, and obedience. The Next Initiative is about more than funding; it’s about aligning your heart with God’s vision for Champion Forest.
